Menopause Medicine

Dr Sarah Jenkins provides specialist consultations for women navigating perimenopause, menopause and postmenopause, offering a clear, medically led approach to managing symptoms and improving long term wellbeing.

With a focus on understanding the full clinical picture, consultations are tailored to the individual, helping patients make informed decisions about their health and access safe, evidence based treatment options.

Approach

Every consultation is structured around a detailed understanding of symptoms, medical history and individual goals. Time is taken to explore how hormonal changes are affecting both physical and emotional wellbeing, recognising that each experience of menopause is different.

The aim is to create a treatment plan that is clinically appropriate, sustainable and aligned with long term health, rather than a one size fits all solution.

  • Menopause can present with a wide range of symptoms affecting daily life, confidence and overall health. Support is available for concerns including:

    • Hot flushes and night sweats

    • Sleep disturbance and fatigue

    • Mood changes, anxiety and low mood

    • Brain fog and reduced concentration

    • Vaginal dryness and discomfort

    • Reduced libido

    • Urinary symptoms

    • Skin and hair changes

    • Joint pain and musculoskeletal discomfort

  • Treatment is tailored to the individual and may include a combination of hormonal, non hormonal and supportive approaches, depending on symptoms, medical history and personal preference.

    Options may include:

    • Bioidentical (natural) hormone replacement and licensed HRT (NHS approved) preparations

    • Non hormonal treatment options

    • Lifestyle and nutritional guidance

    • Ongoing monitoring and review

Where appropriate, additional support for specific symptoms, particularly those affecting vaginal or vulval health, may be recommended within the Women’s Intimate Health services.

  • Menopause care is delivered through structured consultations designed to provide ongoing, personalised support.

    Initial Consultation
A one hour consultation to assess symptoms, medical history and overall health, forming a clear and tailored treatment plan. This is dedicated time for you to be heard fully and discuss your symptoms in an empathetic and supportive setting.

    Follow up Appointments
Follow up is recommended after the initial assessment, often around 4 weeks later where appropriate, to review progress and any blood test results. Further follow up may take place at intervals such as 2 months to assess symptom improvement and overall quality of life, with treatment adjusted as needed.

    Ongoing Care
Management is tailored over time, with adjustments made based on symptoms and response to treatment, ensuring care remains appropriate and effective.

In some cases, further investigations may be recommended prior to starting treatment. A baseline pelvic ultrasound may be advised, particularly for women with a uterus, to assess pelvic health and identify any underlying conditions. Ongoing monitoring may also be recommended as part of long term preventative care.
